For adults
Olly is a heartwarming tale about finding and accepting yourself as well as embracing your unique gifts. Like Olly, we are born into an environment where we feel we fit in, or not. Some of us may wish to shake off the shackles of tradition and authority to find and embrace who we truly are.
This requires a journey away from known territory, into uncharted waters. The open sea may seem scary at first, but eventually we find ourselves, we find what we are good at, we find what we truly want in life.
Having found our treasure, we return home with our gifts and share that with our family and friends, making our original worlds that much richer and brighter.
This story was inspired by my own decision to leave the achievement-driven world of banking and finance to find and pursue what truly matters to me in life.
For children
This is a nice book to share with children because there are beautiful illustrations (by talented artist MaryAnn Loo – PenguinGirl Art) and many marine characters to discover! The story itself teaches children to love and embrace themselves for who they are.
The characters in the story are inspired by Singapore’s marine life. You will find cute and lovable sea creatures like otters, dugongs and dolphins – all of which have been sighted on the Singapore coast! You can also find familiar ships like a ferry, a cruise ship, and a cargo ship.
In summary, the story is sweet and the pictures are a treat for your eyes
